If you or someone else is in danger right now, call your local emergency number (for example 111 in New Zealand, 000 in Australia, 911 in the US and Canada, 999 in the UK, 112 in most of Europe).
For free, confidential support from a trained person, find a helpline in your country at findahelpline.com. In the US you can call or text 988.
Your agent is an AI
Your agent in You & I is an artificial intelligence, not a person. It says so on the sign-in screen and with an "AI" label in every chat, and it will always be honest about being an AI if you ask. It can make mistakes, and it isn't a substitute for professional medical, legal, financial or mental-health help.
Our crisis protocol
You & I follows these steps when someone talks about suicide, self-harm or being in danger:
- The agent responds with care, does not give harmful information, and encourages the person to reach out to someone right now.
- It gives the emergency number for the person's country and a crisis line it is confident is correct there, or points to findahelpline.com, which lists free helplines worldwide.
- The app has a Calm corner (My agent → Calm corner) with a breathing exercise, a grounding exercise and a link to find a helpline.
- We keep an anonymous monthly count of how often crisis information is given, with no names, messages or other personal details, so we can report it as California law requires.
People under 18
- You & I is for people aged 13 and over. We ask for your year of birth when you sign up.
- AI companions may not be suitable for some people under 18.
- If you are under 18, the app reminds you that your agent is an AI when you start chatting, and at least every 3 hours reminds you to take a break.
- For under-18s, the agent will not take part in romantic, flirty or sexual conversation, and it encourages talking to a trusted adult about serious things.
Your privacy and control
- Your journal is private unless you choose to share an entry with friends' agents.
- You can see, change and delete what your agent remembers (My agent → Memories), export your journal, lock the app with Face ID or a passcode, and delete your account at any time.
